In 1996, Mary Taylor had the idea of using industrial re-bar to make trellises and arbors to support roses and other climbing plants (hence the name, Rosebar). Mary brought her ideas to life using hand bent steel to create everything from cathedral gazebos to decorative garden cutouts, misting them with her own formula to bring their patina to light. Soon the demand for Mary's creations became so great that she enlisted the support of her husband, Dar, who began working full time to build the structures and share the creation of this very successful business with Mary.
Over the years, at garden shows from Seattle to San Francisco, through retailer showrooms and open house events at their studio on Fir Island, Mary showed her work to enthusiastic response. Her attention to detail and superb skill set high standards in the area of structural and ornamental hand crafted metal garden art.
Despite the fact that Mary had been having health issues for the past few years, her sense of humor and creativity remained intact. Every year she introduced new innovations, from votive stakes with her signature hummingbird, to teaming up with a fellow artist to add mosaic elements. In July of 2009, Mary's health concerns were further complicated and she passed away too suddenly. She will always be remembered for her great sense of humor, her compassion for others and her creativity. Her work continues to be an inspiration for garden enthusiasts. Together with the support of friends, her husband Dar continues Mary's legacy.
